MISS BABABUSSY is an original fictional character whose story is woven through various music mixes & dj sets.A ghost in the machine caught reverberating outside of time and space, she is plucked from purgatory and brought back to the land of the living, forced to speak through radios, televisions, and analog sound.Struggling to remember existence before her reemergence in a non-corporeal body, she drifts through the mortal coil, sifting through heartache and grief, attempting to act as a conduit between the living and the dead to heal collective pain through music.

Known affectionately as Bababussy in the url and as Laya (pronounced lie-yuh) in the irl — MISS BABABUSSY is an artist and DJ, making her start in Second Life.Baba/Laya's sets are heavily laced and woven together by House and Techno beats, borrowed from the Chicago Queer Underground, where she grew up and currently resides. She is particularly inspired by rock instrumentations from the late 20th century and finds herself in curious and excited by opportunities to combine those sounds into electronic dance music.For MISS BABABUSSY, deejaying and spinning music is a practice of celebrating culture and weaving threads between histories that bind us together and affirm our connectivity.Seismic and transgressive in nature, MISS BABABUSSY blends a smorgasbord of contemporary sounds and four-on-the-floor rhythms to construct soundscapes that explore themes of life and death, devastation, cyberspace, transness, and love.
